<p>Odds are Miami’s favorite chefs can be spotted having dinner at Cake Thai on their night off — and there is a reason for that. The small restaurant located in a strip mall has quickly gained a cult-like following. Sure, it may not have a bathroom. Or a liquor license. But once guests can look past those quirks, they’ll be able to feast on some of the best Thai food in the city.</p>



<p>There are a few things you should know before visiting Cake Thai Kitchen. First and foremost: Prepare to give up any notion of personal space upon entering. The cozy, always-packed, Mediterranean-skewing West Loop restaurant offers communal seating and shared plates (fear not, you don&#8217;t have to share with your neighbors).</p>



<p>Whether it&#8217;s your first visit or your 15th, you must order menu mainstays chorizo-stuffed medjool dates and the &#8220;deluxe&#8221; focaccia with taleggio cheese, airy ricotta, truffle oil and fresh herbs. And Pizza!</p>

<p>Akhtar Nawab (Choza Taqueria, Indie Fresh), is behind Alta Calidad, a newly opened Latin-inspired restaurant, and Nawab’s first full-service, sit-down restaurant in almost a decade. Out of the 40-seat space, the team is serving dishes like queso fundido with chorizo; octopus and pork belly with avocado aioli; and a selection of tacos, vegetables, and family-style dinner plates. The bright, all-white space is taking over what was previously Chuko Ramen.</p>

<p>This homey, neighborhood spot serves up some serious cuisine thanks to executive chefs John Gallo and Rene Reyes, who’s resumes read like a who’s who of the Miami restaurant world. The dinner menu features twists on American classics like pork secreto, roast chicken with local veggies and rum cake topped with thyme gelato.
